Description

Day 1:  Arrive Paro and transfer to Thimphu (2,280m)

The flight into Paro is befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country, magnificent
views of the world’s highest peaks give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land and the first gift from Bhutan will be the cool and fresh air. You will be greeted by your guide upon exiting the arrival hall and will be transferred to Paro town for lunch. After lunch, depart for Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan. The drive will take around an hour.There are many things to see in Thimphu:  Buddha point- kuensel  phodrang is open to all the visitors, the tallest Buddha statue, the 169 feet bronze statue of Buddha Dordenma, vajra throne Buddha symbolizing indestructibility. The view of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point is spectacular and beautiful. Plus you will also visit the Thimphu Tashichho Dzong that was built in the 16th century. (5.00 PM 6.00 PM on weekdays, 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM on weekends)

Day 2: Thimphu (2,280m)

After breakfast, we will drive to the National Memorial Chorten which was built in honor of the late king Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. The stupa is one of the most elegant masterpieces built in the 20th century with detailed religious wall painting and sculptures. We will also make a stop at a textile museum and Folk Heritage museum which is dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition of artifacts  used in the rural households. Then go for a short walk to the Institute of Zorig Chusum and the National Library.

After lunch, we will visit BBS Tower, a beautiful view point of the valley. See  Bhutan's national animal, Takin as we make a stop Mothithang mini zoo. Your visits today will also include the drupthob Nunery built by a Tibeten saint Thangthong Gyalpo in the 15th century and the Changzamtok. where you get to explore Bhutanese weaving. If time permits, you can visit the Handicraft Emporium for souvenirs and explore the rest of Thimphu city.

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha (1,300m)

Today, you will head to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. On the way, visit the country’s oldest (semtokha) Dzong that was built in 1629. The road brings visitors through scented pine and cedar forests, festooned with hanging lichens. The drive takes you across Dochula pass (3,050m) which is marked by 108 chortens and prayer flags. If the weather is clear, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the most spectacular views of the highest Himalayan ranges. Then, we descend through the magnificent pine and rhododendron forests and wander through some of Bhutan’s most spectacular country sides.

We will stop for lunch at Lobesa. After lunch, we will walk (20 minutes) across the terraced fields through village of Sopsokha to the fertility temple, built by Ngawang Chogyal in the 15th century. Then, you will visit the Nalanda Buddhist college and enjoy beautiful view of the valleys. On the way back, you will also have the opportunity to visit Wolakha Nunnery.

Day 4: Punakha to Paro

After breakfast, we will visit the Punakha Dzong. Built in the 16th century, it is a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture, sitting at the fork of two rivers, portraying the image of a medieval city from a distance. A short distance will take you to the country’s longest suspension bridge. Then, head back to Thimphu and where you will have your lunch at Dochula cafeteria with magnificent views of the high Himalayan peaks. We will then drive to Paro, where will make a stop at Thimphu and visit the 14th century Changangkha Lhakhang, a focus of daily worship for many Thimphu residents. On the weekends you may have an opportunity to see the biggest farmers market in the country. You will also get to visit the 16th century Paro Rimpung Dzong and explore the Paro town which is considered to be the best shopping place.

Day 5 Thimphu to Paro

After breakfast our representatives will bid a fond farewell and wish you happy journey back home.
