Description
Visit the Grand Palace and three of the city's most unusual temples.
Located at the heart of the city, the Grand Palace is the former residence of the Kings of Bangkok and one of the most beautiful samples of an ancient Siamese court. Explore the palace complex and see the marvelous structures like the the Funeral Palace, the Reception Palace, the Throne Hall, the Coronation Hall and the Royal Guest House. Discover the beautiful Emerald Buddha housed in the main building of the Wat Phra Keo Temple, aptly nicknamed The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (with other known spellings of Wat Phra Kaew or Wat Phra Kaeo).
See Wat Traimit, home of the Golden Buddha which, at its 3 meter height is the world's largest solid gold statue. Admire this fine example of Sukhothai style art before proceeding to Wat Pho, passing through Chinatown on the way. Wat Pho is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage, home to the Chedis of the Kings and is known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This extraordinary Buddha statue is the largest in Bangkok (46 meters long and 15 meters high) and represents the passing of the Buddha into nirvana.
At the end of the tour, there will be a stop at a local lapidary factory and showroom where you may get locally made jewelry, handicrafts and silk at competitive prices.
