Visit and shop at the Bac Ha Sunday Market, located in the heart of Bac Ha and the largest market in the region. Witness various ethnic groups of different colors come together to buy and sell fresh produce and handmade items. Visit Tay village and then go on a boat trip on the Chay River.

Nestled in the northern hills of Vietnam exists one of the best ethnic markets in all of Southeast Asia! On Sundays, the ethnic minorities from the surrounding villages and hills come by foot, by motorscooter, by horse, and by water buffalo to socialize, eat, drink, and buy fresh produce. It is a blur of colorful plaids and stripes.

 

You will be greeted by a local guide and driver upon your arrival at Lao Cai Station which you will then head to a local restaurant for breakfast (optional, not included). After breakfast you will go to Bac Ha, where you will visit the market, the largest in the region. Every Sunday, a diversity of ethnic minorities sell and buy their produce. These minorities include the Hmong, Phu La, Dao, abd Tay Nung.  Your lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

 

In the afternoon, we embark to Lao Cai, a popular hill tribe village. Pause for a short walk to the village shop Trung Do which is  populated by the ethnic group Tay. You will get to stop in a traditional Tay house for a cup of tea before taking a 1.5-hour boat trip upstream Chay river. The scenery is beautiful on both sides of the river. The boat trip will end at Coc Ly where your vehicle will be waiting for the return to Lao Cai.
