Description

Embark on an unforgettable hiking adventure to Sabah's famous UNESCO World Heritage Mount Kinabalu. If you can only visit one place on Borneo that exemplifies the island to its very best, then it has to be Mount Kinabalu. A World Heritage Site, Mount Kinabalu is well-known worldwide for its tremendous botanical and biological species biodiversity. No visit to Borneo is complete without a trekking expedition to the summit of Mount Kinabalu. Plus, climb the highest ferrata in the world here on Mount Kinabalu. Via Ferrata is a protected climbing route consisting of a series of rungs, rails and cables to aid climbers moving safely through the mountain. Your climbing package includes mountain guide, meals, and accommodation and via ferrata activity. Sample itinerary below:

 

Day 1: Kota Kinabalu / Kinabaly Par HQ / Timpohon Gate / Ascend Mount Kinabalu / Pendant Hut (L / D)

6.30 AM: Pick-up from your hotel lobby and depart on a 2-hour journey to Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Collect your packed lunch.
9.00 AM: Our guide will arrange for all necessary registrations, assign you a mountain guide and apply for your ID TAG. Remember to wear your ID TAG at all times.
You will then be transferred to starting point – Timpohon Gate – where your journey and quest to the summit of Borneo’s highest mountain begins. The climb will take approximately 4 - 5 hours. 
3.00 PM: Arrive at Pendant hut at 3,289m and settle in.
3.30 PM: Attend the mandatory Via Ferrata familiarization in Pendant Hut and meet your Mountain Torq trainer.
6.00 PM: Buffet Dinner at Laban Rata restaurant and overnight at Pendant Hut.
8.00 PM: Lights out.


Day 2: Low's Peak / Low's Peak Circuite / Pendant Hut (S / B / L / D)

1.30 AM: Wake up call and early morning supper. 
2.30 AM: Continuation of journey towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu to catch the sunrise.
5.40 AM: Summit Low's peak @ 4,095m and catch the sunrise. 
6.00 AM: Descend from Low's Peak to meet your Mountain Torq trainer.
6.30 AM: Meet your ferrata trainer at the agreed meeting point for your chosen via ferrata experience (Walk The Torq OR Low’s Peak Circuit).
11.30 AM: Return to Pendant Hut to wash up.
12.00 PM Lunch at Laban Rata restaurant.
Rest and relax. sit in the sun and have a cup of the famous Sabah tea at the base of Pendant Hut while watching the therapeutic mountain scenery.
6.00 PM: Buffet Dinner at Laban Rata restaurant and overnight at Pendant Hut.


Day 3: Descend Mount Kinabalu / Kota Kinabalu (B / L) 

 

Back up day for another summit attempt if previous day was not successful

 

7.00 AM: Wake up for breakfast & pack up.
8.30 AM: Check out of Pendant hut.
Descend to Timpohon Gate. 
Arrive at Timpohon Gate (estimated arrival 1.00 PM - 3.00 PM) and transfer to headquarters to collect certificate of achievement. Lunch will be served in Kinabalu Park. Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu city. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.

Additional Information

  • Advanced booking is required, at least 3 - 6 months before your climb date. Last minute bookings are possible, subject to availability

  • Confirmation will be received within 48 - 72 hours of booking, subject to availability

  • This route will ascend and descend via Timpohon Trail

  • Lunch will be converted to packed lunch on Day 3 (Mt Kinabalu Descent) for climbers who arrived late and missed the lunch timing. Lunch Time: 12.00 PM - 4.00 PM

  • For Ferrata Activity you may choose between  Walk the Torq or Low's Peak Circuit
    For Walk the Torq -  minimum age is 10 years old and at least 1.3m tall
    For Low's Peak Circuit - minimum age required is 16 years old

  • There is no age limit for Mount Kinabalu climbers. As long as you are in good health status or you have seek approval from your doctor if you are on any medication. However, we suggest young children to be at least 10 years old

  • Our friendly guide will greet and meet you at your hotel lobby with a placard bearing your good name. Should you encounter difficulties in locating our guide, you could call our local ground handler who will assist you

  • We do not recommend you to catch your flight on the same day that you descend the mountain due to possible delay from injuries, tiredness and/or bad weather and traffic conditions

  • All transportations are based on Seat-In-Coach. This is a door-to-door service with multiple pick-ups & drop-offs throughout the journey. Do expect some short waiting time

  • After descending to Kinabalu Park HQ, climbers are subject to pre-determined pickup time set by your licensed local operator with the last transport returning to Kota Kinabalu city latest by 6.00 PM. Your local operator will ensure your possible wait of not more than 2 hours at Park HQ. However, if you missed the last transport (which is unlikely) or wish to depart at your own preferred timing, we can arrange a vehicle for private transfer for you (subject to availability). Please understand that the surcharge for any private transfer will have to be borne by you. Private transfer surcharge is RM250/vehicle/way

  • There is only one return transfers for your group. If your group requires more than one return transfers, additional transfer charges may apply

  • You will still proceed your climb at least to Laban Rata should it rain. However, the summit climb to Low's Peak may be delayed or cancelled without prior notice, depending on the conditions of the weather. Refunds are not available due to bad weather

  • Please bring your passport along as it be required for verification during registration at the Kinabalu Park office

 

 

Important Information for Ferrata Climbers 

  • Climbers MUST present their original passports/IC for climb registration at Kinabalu Park HQ on the actual day of climb. Please bring it along with you.

  • Climbers MUST attend the compulsory Ferrata briefing/training session in Pendant Hut between 15:00hrs-16:00hrs(Latest Cut-off time) on 1st day of climb.

  • Climbers MUST descend & arrive at starting point by 07:00hrs (LPC) or 07:30hrs (WTT) for each activity (Latest Cut-off time) on 2nd day of climb.

  • All Ferrata activities will be conducted together in mix groups by qualified Mountain Torq Ferrata trainers. 

  • Climbers who fail to comply with the timing will not be able to proceed with the selected complimentary Ferrata activity. NO reimbursement shall be made.

  • Ferrata activity can be cancelled due to bad weather for the safety of all climbers, NO reimbursement shall be made. 

 

 

Things to bring for your climb:

  • Waterproof backpack to store your items

  • Trekking or running shoe with good grip

  • Warm clothing/Long sleeves shirt/Hiking pants

  • Jacket/Wind breaker

  • Extra clothing and socks

  • Small towel

  • Hand gloves and winter hat

  • Disposable raincoats

  • Head torch

  • Refillable water bottle (0.5 - 1 Litre)

  • High energy food such as chocolates, nuts, biscuits, sweets, energy bars

  • Your extra luggage can be stored at Kinabalu Park HQ at a nominal fee of MYR 10 per piece prior climb

  • Etc.

  • As with the rest of our tour products, we are extremely selective in choosing our local partners. With this tour, we would like to further highlight that it is important your local operators operate with climbing permits. We understand the importance of your trust and security, and hence assure you that your designated local operator is an appointed official ground handler for this package.
