Begin your half day trip from Barcelona in the morning in comfortable Bus to the mountain of Montserrat which rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,236 meter). Montserrat, a multi-peak mountain located is about one hour and thirty minutes by bus from Barcelona. Montserrat is a beautiful Benedictine monk mountain retreat and is of religious significance. 

 

Your tour will include a visit to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta (the Black Virgin). The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat was founded at 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia who is enshrined in the monastery's Royal Basilica. The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. 

 

Take an opportunity to listen to L'Escolania choir, the Bailica's famous choir boy performances of Gregorian chants and other genres of religious choral music. The performances can usually be heard at the Basilica daily except during special events.  

 

Gain entrance to Espai Audiovisual Montserrat, an walk-through, interactive museum that offers you an opportunity to learn and see the daily and activities of the monks and the history and spirituality of the monastery.
